This coolant system cap seals the expansion tank on the W210, W211, W220 and W203, maintaining the correct pressure in the cooling circuit under normal engine operating temperature and venting excess pressure through the relief valve when the calibrated threshold is reached.
A cap that no longer holds the rated pressure can cause coolant loss from the overflow outlet, reduce the coolant’s effective boiling point and lead to overheating under demanding driving conditions or high ambient temperatures.
