The PDC control module serves as the central processing unit for the parking distance warning system. It energises and interrogates each ultrasonic sensor fitted in the front and rear bumper, measuring the time of flight of reflected sound pulses to derive the distance between the vehicle and nearby obstacles. That distance data is translated into an escalating sequence of audible alert tones — increasing in frequency as the gap closes — and, where a visual display is fitted, the module feeds proximity information to the instrument cluster or iDrive screen. All communication with the body control module and further vehicle systems takes place over the CAN bus.
Failure of this unit is typically indicated by complete silence from the parking sensors when reverse gear is engaged, the absence of alert tones during tight manoeuvring, an uninterrupted beeping tone sounding with no obstacle detected, a PDC fault or warning lamp appearing in the instrument cluster, or individual sensor positions becoming unresponsive while adjacent sensors remain active.
The module is supplied in good used condition. Fitting by a qualified technician is strongly advised.
