This BMW AHM II trailer towing module is a genuine OEM electronic component for BMW E39, E46, E53 and X5 models. Primary OEM number 8369019. It is designed to control the trailer socket and the trailer lighting of a vehicle with a factory or retrofitted towbar, by switching the rear lights of the trailer and reporting the trailer connection to the vehicle electronics. The module is mounted in the rear of the car and is connected to the trailer socket and the vehicle wiring harness.
Its job is to supply and monitor the trailer indicators, brake lights, tail lights and fog light, to detect a connected trailer and to adapt the rear light monitoring of the car so that no false bulb failure warnings appear. It also protects the circuits against overload when a faulty trailer is connected. A properly working AHM supports correct trailer lighting, safe towing and correct operation of the trailer socket in daily use.
Common signs of a faulty unit include trailer lights that do not work or work only partly, indicators that do not flash correctly, bulb failure warnings in the instrument cluster, a blown fuse for the trailer socket and stored fault codes for the trailer module. When the module fails, the trailer may be towed without proper lights, which is unsafe and may be illegal on public roads.
This is a used original part, removed from a vehicle and tested before sale. Match the exact OEM number 8369019 before ordering. Professional installation is recommended, and coding of the trailer module to the vehicle is carried out where applicable, so ask a BMW specialist before fitting.
