This Motronic ME7 unit controls the full engine management cycle on the A4 B5 — spark advance, sequential injection, MAF-based load calculation, knock retard, and evaporative emissions. On automatic-equipped vehicles it also exchanges torque request data with the gearbox TCU to manage seamless power delivery.
Signs of ECU failure on the A4 B5 include an engine management light that will not clear, rough running particularly from cold, misfires on one or more cylinders, unexpected limp mode, or fault codes pointing to injector driver circuits or internal controller errors.
