The steering column adjustment lever releases and re-engages the column locking mechanism, allowing the driver to reposition the column in height (tilt) and reach (telescopic) for an ideal driving position. Once the position is set, the lever clamps the column securely.
Column unable to lock firmly after adjustment — moves or creeps during driving; column jammed solid and unable to be repositioned; lever broken or failing to engage the locking mechanism; excessive slack in the locked column.
