The engine ECU serves as the powertrain’s central brain, continuously processing signals from the throttle body, crankshaft position sensor, lambda probes, and coolant sensor. It uses this data to govern fuel delivery, ignition timing, and idle speed, ensuring clean combustion and correct emissions control under all operating conditions.
A defective engine ECU may produce persistent MIL illumination, rough idle, misfires across multiple cylinders, hesitation under load, stalling, or unexplained power loss. In severe cases the engine may refuse to start or the vehicle may default to a restricted limp-home mode until the fault is resolved.
