Serving as the central power distribution hub for the body electronics, the SAM (Signal Acquisition and Actuation Module) is an essential component of these Mercedes-Benz models. It houses the main fuse matrix and relay array for the vehicle body circuits, managing power distribution and signal routing for exterior lighting (headlights, taillights, fog lights), windscreen wipers and washers, horn, electric windows, and numerous other body and chassis functions. Front and rear SAM variants exist — confirm which is required. The module communicates with the instrument cluster, engine management and comfort systems over the vehicle CAN bus.
Exterior lighting failures — headlights, taillights or fog lights ceasing to operate; windscreen wipers or washers becoming unresponsive; fuses blowing repeatedly upon replacement; fault codes logged under the SAM address in the body control unit via Star Diagnosis; or loss of CAN bus communication with the SAM module itself.
