Description
This BMW EWS 3 immobilizer control module is a genuine OEM anti-theft component for BMW E38, E39 and E46 models. Primary OEM number 8387448. It is designed to read the transponder of the ignition key, verify the stored key data and give the engine control unit the permission to run, so that the engine starts only with a correctly coded original key. It works together with the ignition lock and the engine management of the same car.
Its job is to authenticate the key, exchange a rolling code with the engine control unit and enable starting and fuel delivery only when the codes agree. A properly working EWS 3 module supports reliable starting, full protection against unauthorized use and correct operation of the immobilizer system across the key, the ignition lock and the engine management.
Common signs of a faulty unit include a no start condition with a flashing security light, keys that are no longer accepted, intermittent starting failures, an engine that starts and then stops and stored faults about the key or engine control communication. When the module fails, the immobilizer may stop the engine from running, so the car stays parked until the fault is cured. Fitting a tested original module is a proven way to restore normal starting.
This is a used original part, removed from a vehicle and tested before sale. Match the exact OEM number 8387448 before ordering. Professional installation is recommended, and EWS alignment with the engine control unit, key programming or coding is typically needed where applicable, as the module is matched to its original car.
Returns accepted only for genuine faults — faulty on arrival, not as described, or wrong part supplied — requested within 14 days, with all 3 anti-tamper stickers intact. No returns for change of mind, incorrect installation, coding/programming, or buyer compatibility errors; checking compatibility (OEM number, firmware, vehicle) is the buyer’s responsibility.
