The ABS control module processes wheel speed data from all four corners, identifying wheel deceleration patterns that indicate lock-up risk under hard braking. It commands the hydraulic modulator to reduce and restore brake pressure in rapid cycles, preventing the wheels from locking and enabling the driver to maintain steering input. On ESP-equipped variants the module also monitors yaw rate and lateral g forces to detect and counteract oversteer or understeer by selectively applying individual wheel brakes.
ABS or ESP warning light on the instrument cluster, deactivation of anti-lock or electronic stability functions, fault codes stored in the ABS/ESP control unit, erratic pedal feedback or uneven braking during hard stops.
