This diesel fuel filler cap closes and seals the fuel tank inlet on the E46, E60, E61, E87, E53 and E70, maintaining a secure seal to prevent fuel vapour escape, fuel spillage and contamination ingress during normal driving and when the vehicle is parked.
A worn, damaged or absent fuel cap can trigger an evaporative emission fault stored in the engine management system, illuminate the check engine or fuel cap warning light, and potentially allow fuel contamination in the filler neck.
