OEM reference 9110882-01. Genuine used, tested BMW SZL (Steering Column Switch Centre) module for E60 and E90 — the combined clock spring and steering angle sensor as factory-fitted to both the 5 Series E60 and 3 Series E90.
The BMW SZL (Steering Column Switch Centre) module combines the clock spring function with an integrated steering angle sensor. The clock spring ribbon maintains unbroken electrical connections for the driver airbag squib, horn and steering wheel controls as the wheel rotates. The integrated steering angle sensor continuously measures the precise rotational angle and rate of the steering wheel and transmits this data over the CAN bus to the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) module, active steering system and other chassis control units.
Driver airbag / SRS warning light, horn failure, steering wheel controls inactive — from the clock spring side; additionally: DSC / stability control warning lamp, loss of active steering or DSC function, steering angle sensor fault codes in the ABS/DSC control unit — from the sensor side.
Safety-critical and chassis-critical. Professional installation with BMW ISTA is required. After fitting: SRS codes must be cleared AND the steering angle sensor zero-point must be calibrated (confirmed with wheels straight, via diagnostic software). Coding the SZL module to the vehicle VIN may also be required. 14-day returns on unmodified parts.
