The ABS/ESP control unit processes continuous inputs from all four wheel speed sensors, the yaw rate sensor and the lateral acceleration sensor. During hard braking it modulates brake hydraulic pressure via the ABS hydraulic unit to prevent individual wheels locking. The ESP programme compares actual vehicle yaw with driver steering intent and, when deviation is detected, selectively brakes individual wheels to restore the intended trajectory. ASR traction control reduces wheel spin by cutting engine torque and applying wheel braking. The BAS function detects emergency braking from the pedal application rate and maximises braking force accordingly. The module communicates with the engine ECU, instrument cluster and hydraulic unit over the CAN bus.
