Description
This is a genuine Mercedes sun sensor for the W220 S-Class, supplied under OEM number A2208300272. It is an original electronic climate-system sensor that sits on top of the dashboard and works together with the automatic climate control (Climatronic) of the vehicle named above.
Its job is to measure the intensity and direction of the sunlight entering the cabin and send that reading to the HVAC system. Based on this data the automatic climate control adjusts cooling and air distribution, typically cooling the sunny side of the cabin more, so the interior temperature stays even and comfortable.
Common signs of a faulty unit include the automatic climate control over or under cooling in direct sun, uneven temperature between the left and right sides of the cabin, fan speed not reacting to sunlight, or inconsistent Climatronic behaviour on bright days.
