This ignition key slot module for the E81, E87, E90, E91, E92 and E93 houses the key reader antenna and forms part of the ignition lock assembly, enabling the CAS to read the transponder in the key, authorise the immobiliser and allow the engine to start when a valid key is inserted.
A faulty or damaged ignition key slot on these models can prevent key recognition, trigger immobiliser or key-not-detected warnings, or cause an intermittent no-start condition, requiring the slot module to be replaced.
