This oil filler cap closes and seals the engine valve cover oil filler port on the W124, W201 and W210, preventing oil vapour from escaping through the filler opening and stopping contamination from entering the engine during and between routine oil top-up intervals.
A damaged, cracked or missing oil cap can lead to oil vapour in the engine bay, an oily residue near the filler neck, and minor oil loss if the engine is started or operated without a correctly seated cap.
