This Reutter Austria oil filler cap threads onto the valve cover oil filler port across the E30, E36, E38, E39, E46 and E53, providing a sealed closure that prevents oil vapour escape, crankcase pressure build-up at the filler port, and contamination entry during routine oil top-up intervals.
A damaged or missing oil cap can allow oil vapour into the engine bay, cause minor oil loss from the filler port, and may result in engine bay contamination from oil mist if driven without the cap in place.
