Description

This BMW EWS 3 immobilizer control module is a genuine OEM electronic component for BMW E46 and E39 models. Primary OEM number 6905669. It is designed to authenticate the transponder in the ignition key and tell the engine control unit that starting is allowed, so that the car cannot be started without a correctly coded original key. It works together with the ignition lock and the engine management of the same car.

Its job is to read the key, compare its code with the stored data, exchange a secure code with the DME engine control unit and release the starter and injection only when the match is confirmed. A properly working EWS 3 module supports smooth starting, solid theft protection and correct operation of the immobilizer system across the key, the ignition and the engine management.

Common signs of a faulty unit include no start with a lit security lamp, keys that are rejected, an engine that runs for a second and cuts out, starting that works only sometimes and fault codes related to the key or engine control communication. When the module fails, the immobilizer may keep the engine disabled, so the car cannot be used until a working module is fitted. Many no start cases on these cars trace back to this unit.

This is a used original part, removed from a vehicle and tested before sale. Match the exact OEM number 6905669 before ordering. Professional installation is recommended, and EWS alignment with the engine control unit, key programming or coding is generally needed where applicable, since the module is coded to its original car.
