This BMW sunroof module MDS is a genuine OEM electronic component for BMW E46, E39 and E53 vehicles with K-Bus communication. Primary OEM number 6955925. It is designed to control the electric sunroof motor, reading the switch commands and the roof position signals and exchanging data with the vehicle network so the glass roof moves smoothly and safely. It is the control unit mounted on the sunroof frame of these models.
Its job is to drive the sunroof motor for opening, closing and tilting, monitor the motor current and the position of the roof, and stop or reverse the movement when an obstruction is detected. A properly working sunroof module supports smooth roof travel, correct comfort closing, reliable pinch protection and correct operation of the whole roof system on the K-Bus network, including closing the roof together with the windows.
Common signs of a faulty unit include a sunroof that does not move, stops halfway, opens only partly, reverses without reason, makes the motor run without moving the glass or ignores the switch. When the module fails, the roof may stay open or closed, the pinch protection may not work correctly and the sunroof may lose its initialized end positions, which can leave the car exposed to rain.
