Description
This BMW EWS 2 immobilizer control module is a genuine OEM anti-theft component for BMW E36, E38 and E39 models. Primary OEM number 8362277. It is designed to read the transponder in the ignition key, check the key code against the data stored in the module and release the engine control unit, so that the car can only be started with a correctly coded original key. It works together with the ignition lock and the engine management of the same car.
Its job is to authenticate the key, exchange a security code with the DME engine control unit and enable the starter and fuel injection only when the code is valid. A properly working EWS 2 module supports reliable starting, full theft protection and correct operation of the immobilizer system between the key, the ignition lock and the engine management. Note that EWS 2 is the earlier generation and is not interchangeable with EWS 3.
Common signs of a faulty unit include a car that cranks but does not start, a security light that flashes or stays on, keys that are no longer recognized, intermittent starting and stored faults about key or engine control communication. When the module fails, the immobilizer may block the engine, which leaves the vehicle undriveable until the system works again with a good module.
This is a used original part, removed from a vehicle and tested before sale. Match the exact OEM number 8362277 before ordering. Professional installation is recommended, and EWS alignment with the engine control unit, key programming or coding is usually needed where applicable, because the module is paired to its original vehicle.
Returns accepted only for genuine faults — faulty on arrival, not as described, or wrong part supplied — requested within 14 days, with all 3 anti-tamper stickers intact. No returns for change of mind, incorrect installation, coding/programming, or buyer compatibility errors; checking compatibility (OEM number, firmware, vehicle) is the buyer’s responsibility.
