The SAM combines a fused relay board with embedded control electronics to act as the body electrical hub for the W202 and W210. It oversees exterior lighting circuits — dipped and main beam headlights, fog lights, and indicators — plus the wiper and washer system, electric windows, the horn, and central locking, with all systems linked through the vehicle’s CAN bus.
A deteriorating SAM on the W202 or W210 commonly produces recurring blown fuses, selective or total lighting failures, wipers or washers that cease to function, electric windows that stop responding, and central locking that becomes unreliable or completely inoperative, sometimes leading to a full body electrical shutdown.
