This SAM module — the Signal Acquisition and Actuation Module — functions as the body electronics’ central power distribution and control hub in these Mercedes-Benz W211 E-Class vehicles. It houses the main fuse matrix and relay array for the vehicle body circuits, managing power distribution and signal routing for exterior lighting (headlights, taillights, fog lights), windscreen wipers and washers, horn, electric windows, and numerous other body and chassis functions. Front and rear SAM variants exist — confirm which is required. The module communicates with the instrument cluster, engine management and comfort systems over the vehicle CAN bus.
Repeated fuse failure — fuses that re-blow immediately after fitting — is a primary indicator of SAM failure; multiple body systems becoming non-functional simultaneously (lighting, wipers, horn); fault codes under the SAM address retrieved via Star Diagnosis; loss of CAN bus communication with the SAM; or an unusual cluster of warning lights on the dashboard with no obvious single cause.
