This Reutter Austria oil filler cap seals the valve cover oil filler opening across a wide BMW range including the E30, E34, E36, E38, E39, E46, E53 and Z3, closing securely onto the filler neck to prevent oil vapour loss, crankcase contamination from external sources and oil spillage during fill-up.
A cracked or poorly sealing oil cap can lead to oil vapour entering the engine bay, minor oil loss, and an oily residue around the filler neck, and should be replaced to maintain proper crankcase sealing.
