The ABS control unit processes continuous inputs from all four wheel speed sensors and modulates brake hydraulic pressure via the ABS hydraulic unit to prevent individual wheels from locking under hard braking. By maintaining tyre rotation during emergency stops, directional control is preserved. The unit communicates with the instrument cluster to illuminate the ABS warning lamp when a fault is detected, and logs diagnostic trouble codes retrievable with Mercedes Star Diagnosis or a compatible scan tool.
