The ABS/ESP control module is the central processor for the W168 A-Class active braking and stability systems. It continuously reads wheel speed data from all four sensors alongside yaw rate and lateral acceleration inputs. ABS prevents wheel lock-up during hard braking by modulating hydraulic pressure at individual corners. ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) uses yaw rate and lateral acceleration data to detect handling instability and responds by applying selective braking to individual wheels and, where appropriate, reducing engine torque. BAS (Brake Assist System) identifies emergency braking scenarios by monitoring pedal application speed and amplifies hydraulic brake pressure to reduce stopping distances in critical situations. The module communicates with the hydraulic unit, engine ECU and instrument cluster over the CAN bus.
