This coolant expansion tank cap seals the coolant reservoir on the Golf, Passat, Audi A3, A4 and A6, maintaining the correct system pressure by retaining coolant under thermal expansion and releasing pressure at the rated threshold through the integrated pressure valve when required.
A faulty or incorrectly pressurising cap can cause coolant loss through the cap relief valve, allow air into the cooling circuit, or fail to maintain the correct system pressure, which may lead to overheating or coolant boiling at a lower temperature than the system is designed for.
